We don’t see the real Self as it’s concealed by maya. When the veil falls we see we are the Self.

It is the union of nature with the Self that causes the recognition of nature and the power within them both. The Self is independent but is covered by the play of nature known as maya and it is when the veil falls, we see we are Self.
