Some questions and answers

Some questions and answers about yoga and why we practice

classes are for all abilities - we are not an ego based class performing perfect postures but finding the deeper meaning to yoga

Student “ I feel so light after yoga, why is that?”

Teacher “ The mind has released and when that happens the tightness felt in the body also releases”

Student “ I have nothing going on in my mind after a class when we practice not only asanas (postures), but also the powerful practice of pranayama. So why is this the powerful part of yoga?”

Teacher “ Pranayama is an internal practice that is used to reduce all the mind stuff deposited in the subtle pranic sheath, which is not the physical body, but we feel the deposits in the physical body as symptoms; tightness, denseness, dullness ..”

Student “Through this practice, I find my mind is clear and bright and my physical symptoms have dissolved”

Teacher “Yes that’s the benefits from the practice but not the aim. The aim is to experience a continual inner steadiness in mind that never wavers even when circumstances are challenging. This keeps us free from trying to seek fulfilment from outer worldly senses to find true happiness. If we do, we are then withheld in a cycle that just deepens and creates more deposits from the mind back into the pranic subtle body within and creates symptoms again.

The light you experience within occurs when you deeply release the mental obstructions (through asanas, pranayama with inner direct perception). You can then experience a deeper inner layer of our Being that is not emotion but a stillness, a lightness and clarity.

That is what illuminates the true self( when mind is stilled not disturbed). Sometimes called Purusha, atman, pure consciousness. The light shows us that it is apparent

within.

Yoga brings us to that stillness.”

Om Shanti
